My journey in the natural hair industry began long before Naturally Kinky Hair Salon was established. Born on the beautiful island of Jamaica and raised in The Bahamas, I developed a passion for beauty, entrepreneurship, and helping others feel confident in themselves.
While attending high school in The Bahamas, my youngest maternal aunt, Stephanie Morgan-Tucker, opened a full-service natural hair salon. During the 11th grade, I began working alongside her on Sundays and after school. After graduation, I transitioned into the salon full-time. Those early experiences provided the foundation for my career and introduced me to the artistry, creativity, and impact of natural hair care.
As a young woman, I spent much of my free time observing a close friend who braided hair professionally. Although I did not initially realize that hairstyling would become my career, I was fascinated by the beauty of her work and the confidence it brought to her clients. It was during my time working in my aunt’s salon that I made a promise to myself that one day I would own a natural hair salon of my own.
With a growing passion for the beauty industry, I enrolled in cosmetology school and pursued additional training in nail care. These experiences confirmed what I already felt in my heart, hair care was my calling.
In 2010, I migrated to the United States and continued pursuing my dream. I enrolled in braiding courses at LB Beauty Academy and expanded my education through natural hair training opportunities. I was blessed to learn from experienced professionals who helped shape my skills and understanding of healthy hair care. Through dedication, continuous education, and hands-on experience, I developed a deeper appreciation for serving clients and helping them embrace their natural beauty.
Life brought many blessings along the way. In 2012, I welcomed my first daughter, Shanissa Rance. A year later, I married my husband, Shan Rance, and our family relocated to New York. In 2014, we welcomed our second daughter, Aliandrea Rance, before eventually returning to Virginia.
After returning to Virginia, I continued working in the beauty industry while furthering my education through cosmetology and makeup training. During this season, I was encouraged to build my own brand and create something that reflected my passion, values, and vision. That vision became Naturally Kinky Hair Salon.
In 2017, with the support and encouragement of my husband, Shan Rance, we officially established Naturally Kinky Hair Salon as a brand. What began as a dream years earlier was finally becoming a reality.
In 2020, I was blessed with the opportunity to open my own salon in Colonial Heights, Virginia. During this exciting season, I also welcomed my son, Shain Anton Rance. Through faith, perseverance, and hard work, Naturally Kinky Hair Salon has continued to grow into a trusted destination for clients seeking healthy hair care, loc maintenance, braiding services, and natural hairstyling.
Today, Naturally Kinky Hair Salon proudly serves clients throughout Colonial Heights, Richmond, and the surrounding areas. My mission is simple: to help every client achieve healthy, beautiful hair while providing a professional, welcoming, and relaxing salon experience.
My passion for healthy hair also inspired me to develop the Hydrated Locs Method™, a system focused on hydration, moisture retention, and healthy scalp care. To support clients beyond the salon chair, I created the Naturally Kinky Hair Salon product line, including our Rosewater Hydrating Mist, growth oils, hair and body butter, and other essentials designed to help clients maintain healthy hair between appointments.
